Brunswick County becomes home to NC Coastal Fishing program for children of fallen heroes.

Updated: Aug 3, 2022

Local Brunswick County Patty and Lee Heath volunteers for Children of Fallen Heroes nonprofit joined forces with Kevin Sneed the owner of Rigged and Ready to start this fishing seasons NC Coastal Fishing Programs.

"This is a great opportunity to get children off technology and go learn about coastal fishing at Holden Beach, NC." says Kenneth Wasley, Founder of Children of Fallen Heroes . "I was a young child when my father was killed while serving in the U.S. Army. It was not an easy life growing up, but there are memories that had a positive impact on my life. While stationed at Fort Bragg, NC, my neighbor Mr. Dean loved to fish. When I was 6 years old he asked my mom if he could take me fishing. He taught me how to catch bluegills and then my first bass. After catching my first big bass spent the next 40+ years fishing for trout, salmon and coastal fishing. Living on the NC coast is now an opportunity for us to serve a purpose and passion for fishing with First Responders, Military and their families. I personally understand the positive impact it has on my wellness. That is why I am grateful for Patty and Lee Heath including Kevin Snead's family for helping us start this NC Coast Fishing Program. I can't wait to see them smiling with their first big catch."

Patty and Lee Heath are avid coastal fishing enthusiast and have participated in many events including the famous U.S. Open Mackerel Tournament in Southport, NC. "We love the idea of taking small groups of kids and spending more quality time teaching them to fish" says, Patty Heath. It is an opportunity to teach them about them how to catch Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, Dolphin (Mahi-Mahi), Cobia, Amberjack, King Mackerel, Grouper, Black Sea Bass, Vermillion Snapper, Triggerfish, Porgies, and Grunts, while bottom fishing the depths. The program also provides inshore fishing in the coastal marshes of our area, they can catch Flounder, Red Drum, Black Drum, and Sea Trout.
